The Amish fiction genre has greatly increased in popularity in the past few years, but Wanda E. Brunstetter was one of the founders.
Her fascination with Amish culture began when she met her husband, Richard Brunstetter, who grew up in a Mennonite church. According to her website, when researching family history she also discovered that her grandparents were Anabaptists, who led a simpler way of life.
Her primary attraction to the Amish is, “their desire to live a devout Christian life that strives to honor God, work hard, and maintain close family ties.”
Currently, Brunstetter is working on a serialized saga of Lancaster County – one book is coming out every month until the series is finished. The next installments are coming in April, May & June of 2013.
In addition to her research and writing, Brunstetter is a professional puppeteer and ventriloquist.
Her favorite Amish communities to visit in the U.S. are:
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania
Holmes County, Ohio
Christian County, Kentucky
Webster County, Missouri
Her favorite “Englisher” vacation spot is Hawaii.
